Visiting Upton Park the cost to you
Forget emotional etc

For 40 years must of visited on average 10 home games a season

Based on prices now ticket £60 + travel £20 + drink/food/extras £100 = £180 per visit x 400 games = oh fuck no wonder I'm broke

Don't even add in the away games + Europe

Re: Visiting Upton Park the cost to you
If you're actually spending £100 on food and drink then you'd probably be spending even more if you didn't have the distraction of the game for a couple of hours!

And you can't just multiply the current ticket costs across the last 40 years. They've gone well over the rate of inflation - it was much cheaper in the 70s and 80s.

It costs me more to get a travel card from Laindon than it does to get a return flight from Oslo to London to Oslo.

I've been getting flight tickets that cost about £8 each way on Ryanair...there are some that go for £5 each way if you're lucky. Of course the bus to Oslo Rygge airport is about £30 return. I can still get to a match for less than alot of you lot who live in England. Madness, really.

Fucking shit loads over the years and even more now I live overseas.

Still, worth every penny. Experiences are richer than possessions ultimately.

Home and away must be talking around 100k over 26 years.

Different for everyone, but as my days incorporated getting pissed as well (which I wouldn't have done without the football), each game was never cheap, especially since travel became a lot more expensive.

Re: Visiting Upton Park the cost to you
One Word, point I'm making is that your actual spend on going to UP over the last 40 years in today's money is closer to about £24k than the £72k you make out. So that's about £600 a year - not too much of a price to pay if you've enjoyed it.

Re: Visiting Upton Park the cost to you
West Ham is pretty good vice to spend your money on though, and even when it lets you down you don't feel you've wasted the years (although at the time it does hurt obvs), in fact the up's AND downs have only added often to great nights out afterwards for me.Take for instance the Villa Park Forest semi and the 2006 cup final.......both those gatherings of West Ham fans were immense and worth every bit of time and money in the which was technically wasted. Out sung the Forest to drown their goal celebrations and ALL stayed behind at the end (which i've never seen before when watching the cup final).

If you are going to spunk money West Ham is my first and foremost in fact i'd say we've even been bent over at times and let them take it because it's the mob i want to be in amongst.
